Can you remember the last time you engaged in any activity that left you empty? Not physically, mentally or emotionally drained or tired; just a deep feeling that you had given your ALL.
It pays to give your all. Many of us only go, do or say “just enough”. We haven’t had a breakout, a pouring out in so long we feel.....DEAD. That is not God’s desire for us. That is not His desire for our relationship with Him or with others. We often mistake busyness and noise and movement as a sign that we are giving our all, but often a breakout occurs in complete stillness.
About two weeks ago I was in a rush and dropped some really, really expensive Hermès perfume. When it fell and broke, every drop poured, and within seconds every part of my home was filled with the scent. I washed the rugs, wiped down the counter and mopped repeatedly, but there was no stopping the fragrance; it just spread more. It saturated everything. I’ve used this perfume before in very small amounts. Just a sniff seemed potent, and I didn’t want to aggravate any allergies.
This experience made me think about everything we hold back because we think we have done enough. It made me wonder what would happen if I poured everything out to God, in my service to Him. In the last week, I’ve been doing much pouring out. When you think you’re at breaking point, it not the time to stop. That is the time to push, to break out, to pour out. In that process of pouring out, you will be refreshed, not frustrated. You will touch God, and those around you will experience the fragrance of His presence. Don’t shrink back; break forth! Arise out of stagnation! You were not born to be on shelf, you were born to break out!
Get up! Cry out at night, every hour on the hour. Pour your heart out like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him [in prayer] for the life of your little children who faint from hunger at every street corner. - Lamentations 2:19
Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. - Psalm 62:8
Walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. - Ephesians 5:2
As a soothing aroma I will accept you when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you from the lands where you are scattered; and I will prove Myself holy among you in the sight of the nations. - Exodus 20:41
But I thank God, who always leads us in victory because of Christ. Wherever we go, God uses us to make clear what it means to know Christ. It's like a fragrance that fills the air. - 2 Corinthians 2:14
